An old concept used in ancient Persia and yet unknown to many, kinoptic art, as Amaro calls this technique, results from the combination of two different paintings cut and assembled so that when seen from two different angles, defined images can be observed. Prints from Currier & Ives from the 1860’s in which this concept was used can be found with depictions of civil war leaders. More recently famous artists from Venezuela, Italy, U.S. and Israel have been using this technique in their artwork. One of these artists is Julio Amaro who has been doing kinoptic paintings since 1985 and started showing them successfully in New York and New England since 1993. His work is now owned by people around the world and exhibited in several galleries along the east coast of the United States as well as in Europe and South America. He has also participated in ARTEXPO New York and in collaborative exhibits at the Venezuelan Art Center in New York City.
Amaro is a self-taught artist who from an early age developed artistic skill but it was in 1979, at the age of 18, when he started showing and selling his artwork in order to pay his college tuition. At one point he realized that his career and destiny was art instead of Marine Biology or aquaculture, so he dedicated himself to art exclusively while living in Margarita, a Caribbean island.
In 1988 he moved to New York City where he later offered his work to galleries in New England enjoying a great response form art lovers and people in general. Since then he has been working only on this technique in response to high demand, which give him pleasure and inspiration, since he loves to share his creations. He also takes time once a year to teach 8th grade children through a workshop the process of painting and developing this concept in which arts and crafts skills are required.
Lately he’s been also combining photography and digital imaging to create exquisite portraits of flowers that are intriguing and suggestive.
Amaro now lives in Newport, Rhode Island and his artwork is exhibited in galleries in Florida, Delaware, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Venezuela and France.
